Outdoor Equipment

Advice(Councils) on the pre-medical help in a hike

Necessity of rendering of a medical care for a ski hike is bound to a frigorism of an organism and traumas as a result of falls more often.

The cold and strong wind can become the reason of a freezing injury(frostbite) and freezing which serious consequences, down to destruction, are possible(probable) not only at low temperatures, but also at 0 and even a little bit above.

My Bear Encounter

Author Robert Macdougall

Back in the fall of 1975 in I was living and working in the Loedgepole and Pembina Oil Fields, near Drayton Valley, Alberta. I worked for a large American Petroleum company, and did everything from repacking well heads, to electronics and telemetry maintanince. It was quite a good job I'd say. It wasn't without its dangers of course, sour gas and explosions have killed many before and since. It was often hard work too, many a time I was pulling on 48 inch pipe wrenches with snipes or pipefitting a gas station to add telemetry equipment. I was hired for my electronics knowledge, but really any Grade 8 electronics student could have done the job. Easy and honest money I always thought.

Testing Your Salesperson

Don't you just hate it when you walk into a store hoping to find a knowledgeable salesperson with outdoor experience, but instead find a high school kid who is working there so he can get the store discount? Ive worked at an outdoors specialty store, so I know that most salespeople are very active in their outdoor pursuits and know their stuff inside and out. If you are new to backpacking, you often rely on the knowledge of the sales staff to lead you in the right direction. Without the proper recommendations, you can end up spending a lot of money on inappropriate gear. I thought that I would come up with a little way to "test" your salespeople to see how valuable their advice is.

Marching recipes

Rodiola pink (the Gold root). Pink color Rodiola pink (in the further RR) gives, only when svezhevykopannaja and for a short while wetted (after three-four weeks the brine darkens). Under the manual "Drug plants", RR possesses strongly pronounced tonic and fortifying action, it is similar to a ginseng, but is less toxic. In the medical purposes it is used 40 and a 70 percent spirituous extract (in our event only 40 percent). By virtue of obvious(pronounced) not medical reception of tincture it is necessary to note, that at irrepressible consumption the beverage can cause(call) a sleeplessness, light(mild) deafness (pawns ears) and color motions.

Paresthesias Can Be A Pain

It's a clear, crisp morning and the scenery is breath-taking. Your legs feel solid as you begin to hike on your annual backpacking trip with old college friends. All the running after work, weight lifting at the gym, and hiking on the weekends has paid off, as the miles slip by. All of a sudden there's a sharp, bizarre pain in your right foot. Climbing up the switchbacks is grueling enough without this burning and numbness. It 's like nothing you've felt before. The First Aid kit you so carefully pieced together seems useless now. The burning worsens with each step, and electrical pain shoots from the ankle to the toes. As you sit down to yank off the hiking boot, pull the sock, and free the confined toes, a feeling of anxiety comes over you. What is this pain? Will it worsen if I continue? Will I be able to make it through the rest of the trip?

In connection with that has come(stepped) it is time tursletov, dnevok and posvjashcheny in tourists, not out of place, IMHO, would be to share traditional turzabavami. Sally Goes Camping

Sally goes on her first camping trip. Her husband, who was a Scout Leader, was sick so she volunteered to take over for him one weekend. She got everyone together and assigned different duties to each scout.

Gabby was responsible for the food supplies, Mike would be the cook this trip, Johnnie was responsible for their maps and making up a time schedule, Tim was to decide on their events, and to fit them into Johnnie's schedule and Sally would test all their equipment before setting out.

Beginning In The Backcountry: A Guide For No-Timers and First-Timers

For me, it started on a family vacation to the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. To keep me occupied for the eight-hour drive back home, my parents bought me a copy of Harvey Manning's Backpacking: One Step at a Time. By the time we got back to the flatlands I knew, even at 12 years old, that no matter how weird it all got I would always have a place, and it would always be outside.

Hiking in the Grand Canyon Backcountry: A Book Review

Designedas an "outline for most of the major canyons in the Grand," this volume is a treasure trove of scarce (and otherwise impossible to locate) information on not only the seldom explored western reaches of Grand Canyon, but also on the more frequently traveled heart of the Canyon. Its author, J.D. Green, and editor, Jim Ohlman, have together and separately logged many thousands of miles in the Canyon, describing new routes and accomplishing technical climbs. Ohlman is credited with over a dozen first ascents in John Annerinos 1986 guide (see references). Greens expertise is clear from the pages of this book.

Winter Camping

Author Stephen Sharp

Winter conditions can exist at any time of the year!

Why do I winter camp?

For me it’s a natural extension of my snowshoeing day trips. It also seemed a shame for me to have a six-month hiatus every year from my favorite activities, which are backpacking and backcountry camping. I found that as I was going to higher alpine destinations during the other times of the year, I was encountering winter-like conditions and if I could do this, I could certainly winter camp.

Ultralight Backpacking Gear & Techniques

Carrying a light pack is easy. Carrying a lighter pack is harder. In Lightweight Backpacking 101 (reference at the end of the article), we extol the virtues of lightweight backpacking. More important, we offer practical advice for lightening your pack.

My Backpacking Trip

Backpacking can be lots of fun,
When you are out in the sun.
Working hard and stomping your feet,
To every single little beat.
As the day grows longer, the weather gets hotter,
Just make sure you drink enough water.

Love is a Many Splendored Thing

After dating for eight years, I finally married Lisa a few months ago. And everything has been perfect - I cook, she eats; she does laundry, I dirty clothes; she breaks things, I fix them; I love movies, she loves movies. Yet, although we share a faultless domestic relationship, I find it funny how different we are in the woods.

A Tent For All Seasons

In the seventies, deciding what gear to buy was easy. Choices were limited and the tent we bought often served all our needs. Remember the venerable The North Face VE-24? It was the tent on everyone's wish list. It was big and heavy, but we didn't care. We used it for everything, from cold, windswept alpine environments to hot, dry desert climes.

Lightweight gear's rise to fame

With so many people obsessed with weight loss these days, it's only fitting that manufacturers of outdoor equipment follow suit. But instead of cutting carbs, gear makers are ditching heavy fabrics and extraneous features for lightweight materials and efficient designs that offer exactly-and only-what outdoor enthusiasts need. Unlike the Atkins Diet, lightweight gear is here to stay.

Pack It In - Pack It Out

After a long day of hiking, it is always nice to sit and relax in camp. You get to look at the mountain tops, smell the forests and enjoy sunsets. There are no signs of civilization, until you find a cigarette butt lying on the ground! Yes, the mood has been shattered by finding trash on the ground, but there are steps to prevent this. It is a way of backpacking called no trace camping.

The report on a hike on Carpathians on July, 17-23th 2005
