Kachi-Kalyon
Kachy-Kalyon is a medieval cave monastery in the valley of the Kacha River, in the Bakhchisaray district. This is a complex of churches, cells and wine presses, cut out of the rock grottoes, of which there are five, and each of them once had its own life.
In the grottoes, the church of St. Sophia with a wine press, monastic cells, the monastery of St. Anastasia and Greek crosses carved into the rock from the times of iconoclasm have been preserved. It is believed that the monastery was founded in the 8th century by monks who fled to Taurika from persecution.
The monastery survived both the Crimean Khanate and a revival in the middle of the 19th century, until the Soviet authorities liquidated it in 1932, and the buildings were subsequently blown up. The mountain spring, once one of the main attractions, has almost dried up by our time.
