Glaciar Grey

Grey Glacier is a huge tongue of ice in Torres del Paine National Park, sliding from the Southern Patagonian Icefield, one of the largest reserves of fresh ice outside the poles. It descends directly into Lake Gray.

The wall of ice here rises above the water for a good ten meters, from time to time breaking off icebergs of a characteristic blue hue, which then drift across the lake. The spectacle is cold in every sense, but mesmerizing.

You can look at the glacier from observation points along the hiking route, from a boat or from a catamaran. Dress warmly: even in the summer, the Patagonian cold blows from the ice, and the wind only adds to the sharpness of the sensations.
