The Diary of a hike across Crimea on May, 7-14th

7.05.06. Gathering of group was at the Simferopol station at a fountain at 8:40. Us it has appeared all three - Katya (Moscow), I (SPb), Alec (Kiev), well and + organizer Cyril. By a trolley bus we have reached to Yalta (2 hours), whence move on marshrutku and through 15 mines were in the Glade of Fairy tales. From the Glade of Fairy tales hardly more to the right the asphalted road with which our hike has begun upwards leaves. Asphalt has soon passed in the soil road leading by base of rest and still(even) of any fences, and then in good nahozhennuju Botkinskuju a track.

The Art of Long Duration Backpacking

I'm the first to admit I have no monopoly on hard times. I was handed a heavy cross a long time ago, but when I look at the crosses others bear, mine seems to be made of balsa wood.

Between my harsh but precious fate and an endless line of mean and impervious people, this body of mine might have surrendered the ghost long ago, had I not been inspired to take it on long, solo backpacking trips into deep wilderness.

The Johnny Appleseed of Backpacking

I've been backpacking for many years and enjoy just about everything about the activity; from the secnic views, to the physical challange, to the solitude of nature. I also consider myself somewhat of a philanthropist, and enjoy helping others in my community. The combination of these two hobbies led me to teach a backpacking class through my local Parks and Recreation Office, and it became a very satisfying, enjoyable experience.  

Why Do I Love Backpackinng/Hiking

In an article I was reading the author was asked why he backpacks, so I thought I needed to answer this question for myself. My family has asked me this very same question. Some of them think I am crazy, (and the rest of them know I am) they just don't understand why, why I enjoy carrying so much weight on my back and sleeping in a tent and walking for miles, sometimes in not the best of weather to do such. So, I thought for a second and the answer didn't come that easily, so I thought some more and some more and came up with my response.

21 Things Not To Forget On A Day Hike

Hiking is an adventure. Anyone who's gone on a 5 or 10 hour day hike knows as much. While on these day long excursions, you can expect any number of things to happen. In order to better prepare for the various things that one might encounter on the trail, I have composed a list of 21 things that I always consider bringing when I go on a day hike. While I may not use very many of them, I'm usually glad I brought what I did.  

Rainpacking

Here in Pennsylvania we are blessed with an abundance of trails, good scenery and rain. If you pack for a week or so you'll experience rain. The question is are you REALLY ready for it or do you suffer and "make do"? I for one have suffered enough an have made a few equipment choices and modifications to make life easier.  

On The Trail, So In Life

The backpackers I�ve met are big hearted people. Sure they like their space, but in time of need they�ll be there for you. The very choice they make when hitting the trail indicates a inward desire to experience life more intimately, and more intensely, yet they remain tuned to the needs of both their traveling companions and their surroundings. The trail often brings out the best in people and there are valuable tenets in backpacking that translate well into a more rewarding life and a better world.  

Crimea resort?

People in Europe don't know much about Crimea peninsula. Travel agencies are at the very beginning of promoting this nice place. But in a few years advertising will do it and Crimea will be ordinary place like all other resorts.  

Too Much or Not Enough?

About one hundred feet from the trailhead you begin to feel the weight of you pack and start to wonder, why is my pack so heavy? There are many people out there who try to convince you to pack as little as possible, but I am here to tell you that weight is OK. Let�s not go overboard, there is a limit to what you should take on a trip, but you can also make your trip a little more enjoyable by packing some things which you might otherwise have left at home.

Sometimes in ski hikes some participants beat off from group. Similar can occur(happen) not only on a route, but also during the device of a camp: during a bad weather the wind quickly brings traces, to be covered there is no place, difficultly to define(determine) the site. Such events terminate in serious traumas, sometimes lead to a tragical outcome, if the lost the way tourist does not know how to operate(work) in the circumstances, is not able to construct the elementary shelters, to plant a fire on a strong wind and in a snowfall, it is rational to use clothes, and the main thing, not in forces to cope with the despair which has captured it(him) and a hopelessness.
