There is a lot to see in Crimea. There are Yalta, Novy Svet, Alushta and other noisy resorts - and there is also the village of Nauchny. It is a quiet and cosy spot in the Crimean mountains. Real astronomers live here, the ones who peer into real telescopes at night. And for many years in a row people from all over have been coming here in search of romance and new impressions. They come to celebrate a truly Starry New Year by the campfire, to wander around the observatory, to slip away into the mountains for a day.

If you have 5 days and want to ring in the New Year in Crimea in an unusual way, this tour is for you.

Day by dayItinerary

Day 1. Simferopol, Observatory in Nauchny.

December 30, 2010.The group meets at 11:00 at the railway station in Simferopol. There, in the courtyard of the station building near the fountain with doves, the group leader will be waiting for you. He will answer your questions and guide you to the bus. On it you will go to the village of Nauchny (Bakhchisary district). Check-in to a hotel or guest cottages. After a hearty lunch, you will have free time to take a walk in the Observatory Park. In the evening we invite you on an excursion to the telescopes. Dinner and dating evening.

Day 2. Sevastopol, Grafskaya pier, Nauchny, New Year's Eve.

December 31, 2010.After breakfast the group will go to Sevastopol. We will land in the very center of the city. We'll take a walk along the Count's pier and take a photo with the monument to the Sunken Ships in the background. Taking a leisurely stroll, we will reach Artillery Bay (this is my favorite place in Sevastopol). Here we will have lunch in a cafe after which you will have free time to walk around the city center on your own. In the evening we will return to Nauchny, have dinner and begin preparations for the New Year 2011. We will have a festive picnic in a forest clearing (in case of bad weather, there is always the opportunity to go indoors). There will be fireworks, Father Frost and the Snow Maiden, and fun competitions with drawings. We will celebrate the Starry New Year in Kyiv time. (Completes around 2am).

Day 3. Cave city of Bakla

January 01, 2011.In the morning everyone will be sleeping off after the New Year's feast, so no events are planned for the first half of the day except breakfast. But after lunch we will go to the cave city of Bakla. What is a "cave city"? This is a mountain hanging over an endless valley, in which the ancient inhabitants of Crimea cut hundreds of small cozy caves connected by stone steps and picturesque paths. Here we will spend the rest of the day, listening to stories about ancient times and working up an appetite in search of the most successful shots against the backdrop of very bizarre rocks.

4

Day 4. Kachin Valley, Alimova Balka, Menhirs and Taurian Boxes

January 02, 2011. We have breakfast and immediately head out to the beautiful Kachin Valley. This is a deep and wide canyon with sheer rocky sides. On its southern slope lies the ancient cave monastery of Kachi-Kalyon. We will head to Alimov Balka. In the upper reaches of this gorge, rock overhangs, a primitive man’s site, and a roadside menhir (a prehistoric structure made of stone blocks) await us. At the same time, we will visit the so-called “Taurian boxes” - this is one of the few traces left to us by the Tauri civilization.
Upon returning to the bus, we will have lunch and go on an excursion to the main Crimean menhir. In the evening, as always, we return to Nauchny, share our impressions, and have a delicious dinner (this is a festive - farewell dinner).

Day 5. Balaklava, Chembalo fortress, boat trip, Simferopol

03 January 2011. Breakfast. Moving to Balaklava - a wonderful town with a stunning atmosphere. Here we will walk along the embankment, admire the snow-white yachts and take a boat ride (we will leave the bay into the open sea). The program will continue with a tour of a top-secret underground base, where during the Cold War it was planned to “refit” submarines. The final chord will be an excursion to the ruins of the Chembalo fortress, which offers an excellent view of the protected beaches and Cape Aya... After lunch, the group moves to Simferopol by train to the station, where we say goodbye. End of the tour.
