Balaklava

Balaklava

Balaklava is a small seaside town on the southwestern edge of Crimea, now within the boundaries of Sevastopol. Its main attraction is a narrow and deep bay, which is almost invisible from the sea and cuts into the land, hiding between rocks.

Over the entrance to the bay rise the ruins of the Genoese fortress Chembalo, built in the 14th century. And in Soviet times, this protected harbor became a base for submarines with a secret factory cut right into the rock - today it is a museum.

The cozy embankment, fishing traditions and dramatic views of the cliffs made Balaklava one of the most recognizable points of the Crimean coast. A place where history was layered so tightly that it is difficult to find a free meter without some kind of legend.
