Cape Aya
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Cape Ayia and where is it?
This is a vertical part of the Main Range of the Crimean Mountains, which breaks off directly into the Black Sea to the southeast of Balaklava. Since 2023, it formally belongs to the Bakhchysaray District.
How tall is he?
The highest point is the Kokiya-Kiya rock, 558.5 meters. That is, the mountains here fall into the sea almost without dispersal, the spectacle is appropriate.
Is this a protected area?
Yes, the cape is part of the "Cape Aya" landscape reserve. A relic grove of Stankevich pines and a Mediterranean sparse forest grow here - the area has preserved its flora since the times when people were not around.
What is interesting about the cape, apart from rocks?
On the top, traces of an ancient building have been preserved - whether it was a temple or a lighthouse, no one knows for sure. And the cape was included in Aivazovsky's painting from 1875, so the landscape is a proven classic.
Is it easy to get there?
The most convenient start is from Balaklava. The path goes along cliffs and mountain paths, so prepare comfortable shoes and do not count on a walk on the flat.
