FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Count's Pier and why is it interesting?

This is the main sea entrance to Sevastopol - a stone pier with a colonnade, standing on the shore of the South Bay. It acquired its current appearance in 1846, and from the sea it is decorated with a double colonnade of the Doric order, similar to the ancient Propylaea.

Where did such a name come from - Grafska?

The name stuck in honor of Count Voynovich, who commanded the Sevastopol squadron at the end of the 18th century. Officially, they tried to call the pier Katerininskaya, then in Soviet times - the pier of the III International, but the historical name survived everyone and returned in the 1990s.

What is worth seeing here?

A colonnade of white Inkerman stone, a wide, gently sloping staircase that descends directly to the water, and two marble lions by the sculptor Ferdinando Pelliccio guarding the descent. The stairs were conceived even before the arrival of Catherine II in 1787.

How to get to Grafska Prystan?

It stands in the very center, on Nakhimova Square near the South Bay - it is easy to navigate, because it is one of the main points of the city. Maritime parades traditionally take place from here.

What historical events are associated with it?

Admiral Nakhimov was met near these stairs in 1853 after the Sinope victory, and during the war of 1941-1944, the pier was also in the thick of events. In general, she saw royal visits, parades, and many dramatic moments of the city's history.
