Funa

These are the ruins of the medieval fortress of the Feodoro principality at the western foot of Mount Demirji, two kilometers north of the village of Luchyste. In an hour, you can walk here where a garrison of a couple of dozen soldiers once stood.

Feodorites built Funa in 1422-1423 as an eastern border outpost to guard trade routes and defend against the Genoese. The name is Greek and translates as "smoky".

Fate did not spoil it: it was just built - in 1423 an earthquake destroyed everything, it was rebuilt, in 1459 it was turned into a real castle, and in 1475 the Ottoman Turks put an end to it.

Funa at one time had almost a complete set of defensive structures - walls, towers, gates, battlements and even the church of St. Theodore Stratilat. The main decoration is a three-tiered donjon 15 meters high.

Not a giant: about 106 by 56 meters, a little more than half a hectare together. But the location near Demirji compensates for its modest size with views.
