What are these ghosts in Haunted Valley?
There are more than a hundred stone figures on the slopes of the Demerji mountain massif in Crimea. For millions of years, wind, rain, and sun polished the conglomerates until they resembled people and animals.
What is worth seeing here?
The main star is a pillar nicknamed the Giant: 25 meters high and 5 meters in diameter. And the rock that was nicknamed the Profile of Catherine II - it can be seen even from the Simferopol-Alushta highway, if you know where to look.
When is the best time to go here?
Figures change their appearance depending on the light, so morning and evening give the most interesting silhouettes. And when the fog descends on the valley, the stone ghosts become completely convincing - then the name works to the full.
How to get here?
The nearest city is Alushta, and you can get there on the Simferopol-Alushta highway. Further up the slope, Demerji is on foot.
Is this a protected area?
Yes, the valley has been under protection since 1960 as a natural monument, and since 1981 - already of republican significance. There are more than 400 types of plants, among them the rare yew, so you should also look under your feet.
