Baydarski vorota
Baydar Gate - a mountain pass in the Crimean Mountains at an altitude of 527 meters, connecting the Baydar Valley with the Black Sea coast. The Sevastopol - Alupka - Yalta road passes through it, so it is most convenient to get there by car or bus.
The main decoration of the pass is the stone portico of 1848, designed by the Yalta architect Karl Eshliman. It was erected in honor of the completion of the same road, so it is rather a monument to the new road of the 19th century than a simple decoration. Crowds come here for the sea views.
The history of the place is not only carefree. The pass was of military importance: in November 1941, a small detachment of border guards under the command of O. S. Terletsky held back the enemy's advance here. Terletsky himself was shot in 1942.
