FAQFrequently asked questions

Where is the Tavpishirka ridge and how to get there?
Tavpishirka is located in Gorgany, on the border of Nadvirnyan district of Ivano-Frankivsk region and Tyachiv district of Transcarpathia. The most convenient starting points are the villages of Bystrytsia and Osmoloda, from where logging roads lead deep into the massif. It is difficult to get here by public transport, so most people drive their own cars to the end of the road, and then walk.
Which route leads to the ridge of Tavpishirka?
The classic option is to climb forest and meadow trails to the main ridge, which stretches for about 9 km from the northwest to the southeast. The top offers wide views of the neighboring Gorgan ridges and the characteristic stone placers-gregit. Marking here is conditional in places, so a track or a map will not interfere.
How difficult is the climb and how long does it take?
The maximum height of the ridge is 1,503 m, so it is technically an easy track, but the Gorgans are exhausting with steep forest climbs and sections of gravel, where the feet easily fall between the stones. Allow a full day, 6-9 hours depending on the starting point and the weather, for the radial exit. It is better for beginners to go with someone who already knows these trails.
How is Tavpishirka related to other peaks of Gorgan?
The ridge is inscribed in the central part of Gorgan and is adjacent to well-known massifs such as Sivuli and Igrovets. You can build a multi-day traverse with the ridge, connecting several peaks - this is how Gorgans usually walk. Because of this, Tavpishirka is often taken as one of the links of a longer route, rather than a separate goal.
When is the best time to go and what should be considered?
The optimal season is from June to September, when the trails are dry and there is no snow on the slopes. Gorgans are famous for changeable weather and fogs, so take wind and moisture protection even on a clear morning. There is little water on the ridge, stock up below, and be sure to leave a route plan for someone - communication is not available everywhere.
