Ivano-Frankivsk start

A short but comparatively difficult winter trek into the Gorgany. There are no huts or shelters on this route, so all the nights are spent in tents on the snow. The main goal of the trek is a winter ascent of Velyka Syvulia (1836 m). It is one of the most beautiful peaks in the Carpathians - a steep, sharp summit strewn with green boulder scree. Besides that, we walk along the Tavpishyrka ridge and take a peek into a real Hell :)

Day by dayItinerary

1

Day 1. Ivano-Frankivsk, Staraya Guta, Borevka pass.

The group meets at 7 am at the Ivano-Frankivsk railway station. The instructor distributes food and rental equipment. We take a chartered minibus and go to the village of Staraya Guta (3-4 hours on the road), where the walking part of the route begins.

2

Day 2. Mount Lopushna, Mount Bolshaya Syvulya (1836 m), Malaya Syvulya (1818 m), the Rushchina valley.

We will pass the first 200 meters of altitude under the cover of the forest. But in the area of the intermediate peak Borevka (1596 m), the forest thins out and the route will no longer be languid. If we are lucky with the weather, there will be stunning panoramas and other unearthly beauty. If there is snow (wind, freezing rain), it will hit us with full force. We come out onto an open ridge and there will be nowhere to hide until the evening.

We go straight along the ridge, through the peaks of Lopushna (1694 m), Bolshaya Syvulya (1836 m) and Malaya Sivulya (1818 m). If we’re lucky to find shelter, we’ll even have lunch somewhere :) And having completed the ascent and taking a couple of shots at the top, we’ll quickly descend to the Bystraya meadow, to the ruins of the border outpost. We spend the night here or in the next clearing - Rushchina.

3

Day 3. Peklo tract, Tavpishirka ridge, Yavorchik valley.

4

Day 4. Bystritsa, return to Ivano-Frankivsk.

We collect our things and go down to the village of Bystritsa, where custom transport awaits us. We leave for Ivano-Frankivsk (2-3 hours on the road). Most likely we will arrive there by 16:00. If you have time left before the train, you can walk around the city, sit in a bar or go to the sauna, warm up after the cold and once again remember our adventures in the winter Carpathians.
