Stara Huta

The easiest way is to go from Ivano-Frankivsk through Bogorodchany and Solotvyn, and further up the valley of Bystrytsia Solotvynska to the village of Huta, of which Stara Huta is a part. The road is asphalted almost to the end, the last kilometers are a mountain dirt road, so a bus is a rarity here, it is more convenient to use your car or transfer. A landmark on the way is the presidential residence "Synohora", which cannot be overlooked.

Stara Huta is a convenient gateway to Central Gorgan, from where routes are laid to Sivula (1836 m, the highest peak of Gorgan), Igrovets and Vysoka. The tributaries of the Bystrytsia River rise to the valleys through the valleys, and from there they gain height with ridges. It's more like hiking for several days than walking for half a day.

Gorgany is not for single beginners: the routes here are mostly of medium and higher difficulty through rocky ridges and the famous mountain pine forest, through which you literally make your way in some places. The trails are not always marked, so navigation, time and fitness will be required. A one-day excursion to the nearest polonys is possible for a prepared amateur tourist.

The classic season is from June to September, when there is no snow on the ridges and the trails are dry. In May, snowdrops may still lie at altitude, and in autumn it gets dark early and the weather deteriorates. In winter, it is beautiful here in its own way, but these are already routes for ski tourists with equipment, and not for the first acquaintance with the Gorgans.

Stara Huta is a small mountain village, so you should not wait for full-fledged shops: food, gas and everything you need can be bought more reliably in Solotvyn or Ivano-Frankivsk. Overnight stays are mainly agrotourism estates in Guta itself or nearby villages, and a tent is already on the route. Water is collected from mountain streams (Bystryk, Rypna), but higher up along the ridges springs are not found every step, so carry a supply.
