Hekla

One of Iceland's most active volcanoes, known in the Middle Ages as the 'gateway to hell'. It has erupted more than 20 times since 1210, and the catastrophic blast of 1104 buried over half the island in tephra. Its last eruption was a short one, in February and March 2000.
