What is Chaos in Alupka?
This is a large accumulation of diabase blocks of volcanic origin - a natural mountain mess, which the gardeners did not clean up, but entered into the landscape park of the Vorontsov Palace. The stone here is the same from which the palace itself was built.

Where did these blocks come from?
This is solid gray diabase, which was erupted by the geological history of Crimea long before someone decided to build a park here. The same stone went on the walls of the Vorontsov Palace - that's why the building and the piles look like relatives.
What else to see nearby?
The landscape park itself with fountains and sculptures - marble lions, Cupid, Trilby and Shell fountains. At one time, a whole team of gardeners worked on landscaping, including Karl Kebach.
When was the palace near Chaos built?
Construction lasted from 1828 to 1848, and the heaviest earthworks fell on 1840-1848. The stone was transported not far - it was lying right here, in the form of the same Chaos.
