What is Roman-Kosh mountain known for?
This is the highest point of the Crimean Mountains - 1545 meters. There is nothing higher than it in the Crimea, only the sky.
Where exactly is it located?
On the Babugan-yayla massif, within the Yalta district. It is made of limestone, so there will be a typical Crimean stone underfoot.
How to get up there?
There are several trails: from Krasnokamyanka through the Gurzuf saddle, from Yalta or Ai-Petri, from Angarsky pass along the Konyok ridge or from Maloy Mayak through Talma-Bogaz. Choose according to your mood and strength.
Is it possible to go there freely?
Formally no - the peak lies in the Crimean nature reserve, and officially it is forbidden to enter there. So plan with that in mind.
Where does the name Roman-Kosh come from?
From the Turkic words: orman (forest) and qoş (temporary herdsman of a house or fold). Shepherds and sheep once felt at home here.
