Torres-del-Payne
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Torres del Paine anyway?
This is a mountain group of the Cordillera del Paine in Chilean Patagonia with three famous granite towers - in fact, the same Towers of Paine, for which they come here. All this is part of the national park of the same name.
What are the peaks here and how high?
Cerro Pine Grande is considered the highest. The figure is often given as 3050 m, but a careful analysis of the photos brings it down to 2750 m - so even the mountains keep the exact height here to themselves.
Where did these sharp towers come from?
The rocks here are granite, and all this beauty was formed about 12 million years ago. Three monolithic towers were carved by glaciers - patiently, for millions of years, without haste.
How to get here?
Be prepared for a long drive: the massif lies 400 km north of Punta Arenas and a good 2,500 km from Santiago. Administratively, it is the municipality of Torres del Paine, province of Ultima Esperanza.
