What is Kala Pathar and why climb there?
This is a rock in the Khumbu region of the Nepalese Himalayas, about 5,644 meters high. From a technical point of view, it is only a small southern projection of the nearby Pumori peak with a drop of only ten meters, but people go here not for the peak, but for the view.
What can be seen from there?
Actually, the main reason for the whole venture is the panorama of Jomolungma from the foot to the very top. The set also includes Nuptze, Changze and Lhotze.
How to get there?
The climb takes 1.5-2 hours from Gorakshep (5164 m) or 3.5-5 hours from Lobuche (4940 m). The numbers are small, but it's the height - it's not as fun to breathe here as it is below.
What is an interesting fact here?
Since 2011, Kala Pathara has had a webcam pointing to Jomolungma, the highest webcam in the world. So someone sees this landscape without even getting up from the sofa.
