What is Feriche and why do people go there?
This is a small village in the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal, at an altitude of about 4,371 m. It is on the way to Everest Base Camp, so most travelers here are not admiring the scenery, but getting used to the altitude.
Why stop here if the goal is Everest?
For acclimatization. At such an altitude, the body must be gradually acclimated, otherwise altitude sickness will quickly remind of itself. Feriche is a classic stop for this.
What to do if it becomes bad at a height?
The base hospital operates in the village under the auspices of the Himalayan Rescue Association - it has been operating since 1974. It is useful to know that help is nearby when the head is dizzy not from views.
When should you plan a trip here?
There are two trekking seasons: March-May and October-December. In the same months, the local hospital also works, so it coincides not by chance.
Who lives in Ferice?
Once the village was purely agrarian, but now in the summer many local men work as guides and porters. The tourist infrastructure with overnight stays has also grown under the flow of travelers.
