Day by dayItinerary

1

Day 1. Flight to Turkey, gathering in Kayseri, Guzelyurt.

Group gathering at Kayseri airport in the first half of the day (time is negotiated separately). Usually everyone flies there with a transfer in Istanbul (Pegasus Airlines or Turkish Airlines). Participants buy air tickets on their own, but if necessary we can help with advice.

2

Day 2. Cave city of Savrihisar, sulfur lake in the crater of a volcano

The goal of our radial bike ride today is the sulfurous Lake Nar located in the crater of an extinct volcano. Sometimes the lake literally boils from gases rising from the depths. However, this will not stop us from swimming :)

The road to the lake lies through the plateau and along the way we will see the cave city of Savrihisar and the so-called Red Church, ride along the canyon and a couple of lava flows (frozen, of course).

3

Day 3. Yhlara Canyon

Ykhlara Canyon is a kind of oasis in the middle of a volcanic plateau dried up by the sun and winds. A river flows along the bottom of a deep gorge, on the banks of which life is seething: trees grow, sheep graze and tourists wander around. We will drive right through the canyon, visiting several intricate cave temples with well-preserved frescoes from the Byzantine period. At the end of the road we will jump out at the village of Selime. Next, we’ll go to an observation deck overlooking a landscape quite suitable for Star Wars.

4

Day 4. Derinkuyu Underground City, Goreme Village

Today we are changing our place of residence. We pack our things and send them by car to the village of Goreme. And we ourselves go on bicycles to see the underground city of Derinkuyu. This is really a city - 12 floors, kilometers of tunnels, 4 thousand years of history.

5

Day 5. Cavusin, Pink Valley, Peribajalari, Red Valley

The fifth day of the Cappadocia cycling trip will begin with a trip to the village of Cavusin. Above it rises a holey rock thoroughly gnawed by a huge number of man-made caves. Once churches, homes and wineries, they have now become a paradise for tourists. Here you can climb for hours... But adventures await us - we are going to the Rose Valley, one of the main ones in Cappadocia. Having rushed through a labyrinth of paths and stone towers (these are volcanic “peribajals” - the so-called fairy chimneys), we will rise to the Sunset point observation deck. Then we will have a long high-speed descent along the bottom of the next “Martian” gorge - Red Valley.

6

Day 6. Avanos, Sarykhan caravanserai, Derwent Valley, stone mushrooms, Zelve, Pashabagi.

7

Day 7. Valley of Love, cave fortress Uchisar, Ortahisar

The next object of our bike tour is the Valley of Love. Along it we rise to the Uchisar fortress. As has long been the custom in Cappadocia, it is not built of brick, but carved out of a huge rock. We have already seen its peak several times in the previous days of the trip, and now we can appreciate the panorama of Cappadocia from its height.

8

Day 8. Flight over Cappadocia in a hot air balloon, transfer to Kayseri.

Another traditional entertainment for tourists in Cappadocia is hot air ballooning. Despite the rather high cost (about $150 per person), this type of recreation is extremely popular. Every day at dawn, the sky over Goreme is literally filled with hot air balloons. It's an incredible sight, even when viewed from the ground. But you can also fly (paid separately)...

If you are not yet ready to fly, you can take a walk to the open-air museum or climb to the observation deck on the cliff above the city. After lunch we pack our bikes, load our luggage into the minibus and head to Kayseri airport. The cycling tour of Cappadocia is completed - you can fly home or continue your vacation in Turkey (go to the sea).
