Love Valley
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is the Valley of Love and where does the name come from?
This is part of the Cappadocia landscape near Goreme with tall, narrow rock pillars - the same "stone mushrooms". The valley got its name for the specific, let's say, phallic shape of these pillars, so the guides here usually smile.
How were these stone pillars formed?
All these are the consequences of the ancient eruptions of the Erjies, Hasan and Göllüdag volcanoes: a thick layer of volcanic tuff was worn by wind and water for millions of years, until these bizarre peaks remained.
Where is it and how to get there?
Valley in central Anatolia, Nevşehir Province, near Goreme and Uçhisar. The nearest major transport hub is the city of Kayseri with an airport and railway to Ankara and Istanbul.
When is the best time to come and what to do here?
A classic of the genre is a hot air balloon ride at dawn: dozens of balloons rise above Goreme and the valleys every morning. Who does not like heights, walks through the valley on foot among the rocks.
Does this place have any official status?
Yes, this area is part of the UNESCO site "Gereme National Park and Cappadocia rock complexes", which was included in the list of world heritage back in 1985.
