Report on the sea kayak tour Turkish Atlantis 10/31/2021 r.
The kayaking trip in the Mediterranean Sea began in an unconventional way - we thought about it for a long time. A powerful cyclone was approaching the Lycian coast and it was necessary to take this fact into account when planning the route.
31.10.21 Training day
Are our tents ready for 50mm of rain this night? Not a fact. So the idea came up not to leave the hotel forever, but to make the first day a training day - sail on a radial route through the bays around Kas, and return to the city in the evening.
At first, this plan seemed too cautious (to put it bluntly - alarmist), because you can already feel the sun and warm sea, and the forecast is a lie and can change your mind. But after lunch the color of the sky changed. A black storm front moved in from the Greek islands, the wind picked up and we barely made it back to the harbor before the lightning struck the sea.
It’s a strange thing - we fought the waves, barely landed on the shore, carried kayaks in the rain, and walked home in the same rain. And imagine, all this time I personally was shaking with joy. It’s good that the forecast didn’t lie, and we didn’t give a damn about it and chose a cautious plan.
01.11.21 Aperlai, Yuzumlu
A new day on the Mediterranean Sea brought new troubles. Our hotel was almost washed away by the rain this morning, but that’s not what I’m talking about. The new forecast said that the rains would gradually subside, but there would be wind in which our kayaks would have a hard time on the open sea.
Therefore, we sat down with the map again and came up with a route for today that would allow us to hide behind the islands all the time... and return to the city in the evening. Unfortunately. To be honest, I already want to go to the tent. But damn the wind.
So there was a radial trip again - we sailed to Aperlai Bay, looked at the fortress and dreamed of treasures. On the way back we took our first look at the hidden bay of Barak Limani. This is a very cool canyon that is worth a more detailed examination in more comfortable weather.
By the way, from the photos it seems that we are in a harsh late autumn. But in fact, the sea is hot, and the air is very warm. After a few really cold nights on the St. Paul it's all child's play.
It’s great to see how quickly our rowing skills are growing. In fact, we were beginners and still are. The perception of water has changed. The waves are no longer stressful and we can already row steadily against the wind. Unfortunately, eating a pomegranate with an oar in your hands doesn’t work out yet ((
02.11.21 Simena-Kekova
All! There will be no more rain. We finally spent the night in tents. On the island. Sami. Bliss. Even the invasion of sea mosquitoes did not stop))
There were several scary moments during the day due to the wind. But we had a very fruitful run on the shore (the fortress in Calais, etc.) and finally waited for more humane weather.
At sunset, the sea surprisingly calmed down even more and we even went night fishing. Not a single animal was harmed)) We saw real moray eels and large squids and were satisfied with that.
03.11.21 Turtles
Miracles! The last day of the Mediterranean kayaking trip went according to plan. I didn’t have to change, invent or cancel anything. We just had breakfast, made coffee, swam into a pirate grotto with bats, then into a nudist bay without nudists, then into an icy river with turtles...
For some reason it seems to me that these turtles will remember us. We ran after them along the shore, dived into the icy river, and made our way through the reeds in kayaks. All for the sake of silent giant animals. Or rather, for the sake of photos with them. Like little children, honestly. But with gray beard))
And suddenly, bang - and we are already in Demre at the station. The hike is over. It should have been so, but why so early? Can you think of anything else?
