Crimean Legend - The Thousandheaded cave on Chatyr-Dag

Crimean Legend - The Thousandheaded cave on Chatyr-DagLong long ago it was, much water has flowed under the bridge since well-armed throngs of nomads have rushed to the South coast of the Crimea.

Dwellers of the South coast being anaware of violence had found themselves in servitude. Cruel enslavers deprived the hard-working people of everything: of freedom, honour, fruit of their labour. During three years the enslavers were ruling with impunity in the south villages. But people's patience was exhausted. Once the most brave people gathered together to think of casting off the hateful yoke...

While they were coming to an agreement the danger was impending from the sea. Near the shores corsairs appeared being famous by their devastating forays.

Frightend enslavers, unwilling to join battle with corsairs and expose their lives to danger, armed the slavers and ordered them to defend their native land.

Having occupated the whole coastal space the slavers kept an alert eye for hostile ships giving no opportunity to approach near and put ashore the robbers.

When the danger had passed the enslavers descended the mountains from where they had been observing the battle and decided in honour of the victory to make an imaginary feast.

While they were celebrating the slavers took an oath not to lay down arms untill the invaders all to a man would be engaged. They also came to the feast but they were armed to the teeth with bows, sabers and stones.

Having become panic-stricken the revelers fleed away. But the formidable avengers overtook them everywhere - in villages, in forests, in mountains.

Thousand of the villians had managed to hide in a large cave on Chatyr-Dag. But they were not hidden and there. The rebels blocked the enter of the cave up with stones and let not a living soul out.

Thus the enslavers were punished according to there deserts. No track left remindering of them except the thousand skulls in the cave on Chater-Dag. Since that time the cave bears the name - The Thousandheaded.

Chatyr-Dag - is the Tent-Mount situated in the main ridge of Crimean Mountains by its outlines it looks like a tourist tent.
