Sotera

River 📍 Crimea

FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Sotera and where to find it?

This is a small mountain river in the Crimea, south of Demerji, only 8 km long. It flows from Demirji-yayla and reaches the Black Sea near Alushta.

Why does the river have three names?

At the top is Jurla, in the middle is Alak, and at the bottom is Sotera. The Crimean Tatars named separate areas, not the river as a whole, so one water - three names.

Which waterfalls are worth seeing?

There is a whole cascade on the river, and the stars of the program are Jurla and Geyser. In the full-water season, the sight is much more impressive than a dry stone in the summer.

And what kind of stone mushrooms?

This is a protected tract on the left bank in the middle stream - geological figures that look like mushrooms with a leg and a cap. Nature has sculpted them for more than one millennium, so there is no need to break them off for souvenirs.

When is the best time to go?

In the spring or after the rains, when the waterfalls are really pouring. In hot July, the river becomes smaller, and instead of a cascade, you can find a modest stream.
