Tirke
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Tyrke Yaila?
This is a table-shaped plateau in the main range of the Crimean Mountains, which is sometimes considered to be a continuation of the nearby Dovhorukivskaya Yayla. The name in Crimean Tatar means something like "low table" - and it is really flat in shape.
What is the height here?
The highest point is Mount Khaphal-Bash, 1287 meters above sea level. There are several more peaks at 1,280 meters nearby: Zamana, Dolga and Tyrke itself.
How to get here and where is it?
The plateau lies in the Simferopol district, the nearest landmarks are the village of Perevalne and the rivers in the area of their sources. Tourist routes No. 136 and No. 143 pass through Yaila, as well as the 26th stage of the Great Crimean Way, and there is a road along the entire plateau.
What to see here?
From the southern cliffs, the nearby Demerji Yaila opens, and on the eastern edge, the cliffs of "Tyrke Nose" protrude above the valley of the Ulu-Uzen River. The northern wooded slope is a botanical reserve with beech forest, yew and Crimean wolfberry.
Are there as many caves here as on other islands?
Despite the karst nature of the area, there are almost no caves here - only one Tirka-Hoba grotto is known. So for underground adventures, it is better to go to nearby Karaba.
