FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Scientific and why is it interesting?

This is an urban-type village in the Bakhchysaray district of Crimea, which was built from the very beginning as a town for astronomers. The main reason for its existence is the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory with its telescopes.

At what height is the village?

About 574 meters above sea level - that is why the place was chosen for the observatory, where the sky is darker and clearer than down by the sea.

When did the observatory appear here?

Construction began in 1947, and the first telescope was operational in three years. Until 1957, the village was called Akadembud, then it received the status of a small town and the current name, which was proposed by the scientist PP Dobronravin.

What can be seen here?

The telescopes of the observatory, in particular the tower of the ZTSH with a bust of the first director, and the apartment-museum of Academician A. B. Severny. The village is small (a little over 600 inhabitants), so you can get around on foot.

When is the best time to come?

At the beginning of September, Village Day is celebrated here - a good opportunity to catch the local atmosphere. And in general, clear, cloudless nights are appreciated for stargazing.
