Borzhava
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Borzhava and what is the highest point here?
This is the Polonyn Ridge in the Ukrainian Carpathians, about 50 km long, stretching across Transcarpathia. The highest peak is Mount Sty, 1681 meters.
Where exactly is Borzhava located?
The massif lies in the Transcarpathian region and affects several districts at once - Volovetskyi, Mizhhirskyi, Svalyavskyi, Irshavskyi, and partially Khustskyi. The narrow strip of the ridge is only 3-4 km wide on average.
What is worth seeing here?
Spacious meadows with blueberries above, beech forests below and two ridges converging near Veliky Verkh (1598 m). Nearby are the Shipit waterfall and the Rosishniy and Potik Osa protected tracts.
When is it better to go to the mountains?
Summer and early autumn are the most comfortable time for hiking. Bonus: blueberries are harvested from July to September, so you won't go hungry.
Does the Borzhava River really flow from here?
Yes, the Borzhava River originates precisely on the southern slopes of this massif. The name, as you can see, is not in an empty place.
