Stariy Krim

Stariy Krim

Stary Krym is a small town in the east of Crimea, at the foot of the mountains near Kara-Dag and Koktebel. Behind its current quiet appearance hides one of the oldest cities of the peninsula: in the Middle Ages it was known as Solkhat and served as the capital of the Crimean ulus of the Golden Horde.

From those times, visible traces remain, in particular the mosque of Khan Uzbek from the beginning of the 14th century, one of the oldest in Crimea. Nearby, in the forest above the city, stands the Armenian monastery Surb-Khach, also from the Middle Ages.

There is also a literary page here: the writer Oleksandr Green spent his last years in the Old Crimea and died, and his house now works as a museum. In general, the city is small, so you can get around the main thing on foot, without hurrying.
