Lag de los Tres
Laguna de los Tres (Laguna de los Tres) is probably the most famous turquoise lagoon of Argentine Patagonia. It lies at the foot of Mount Fitzroy in Los Glaciares National Park, a few hours' drive from the town of El Chalten, the capital of trekking there.
The name literally means Lake of the Three - in honor of the three peaks rising above the water, among which Fitzroy itself is the highest. The classic one-day route here and back takes a couple of tens of kilometers, and the final ascent to the lagoon forces your legs to work hard. The reward is a panorama of the glacier and sharp peaks reflected in the icy water.
They come here mainly in the warm season, from November to March. Many spend the night in a tent nearby to catch the dawn as the first sun paints Fitzroy pink.
