Kush-Kaya

Mountain 📍 Crimea

FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Kush-Kaya and how tall is she?

This is a 474-meter-high mountain near Novy Svet and Pike perch, also known as Sokil. The Crimean Tatar name Quş Qaya translates as bird rock.

Is it true that this is a coral reef?

Yes, the mountain is an ancient coral reef about 150 million years old, from the time of the Tethys Ocean. They say it is the largest such reef in Europe - not bad for an ordinary-looking rock.

Is it suitable for climbing?

In total: more than two dozen routes from the 1st to the 6th category of difficulty have been laid to the top. If ropes and iron scare you, the west and north sides can be tackled without equipment.

How to get to the foot?

Near the foot of the mountain passes the only asphalted road connecting Novy Svit with Sudak. It is difficult to get lost - to turn to nowhere in particular.

Is it true that the mountain changes color?

Yes, depending on the lighting: in the sun it is white, and after rain it acquires purple shades. Free performance for those who are in no hurry.
