Lapataia

Lapataya is a river and bay in the very south of Argentina, in the Tierra del Fuego national park near Ushuaia. This is almost the edge of the land: here ends the National Road No. 3, which stretches across the country.

The Lapataia River quietly flows into the bay among sub-Antarctic forests, peatlands and bird lagoons - the landscape is calm and a little melancholy, as befits a place with a "end of the road" sign. Further south, there is only the Beagle Channel and Antarctica somewhere over the horizon.
