Ushuaya

Ushuaya

Ushuaia is the capital of Argentina's Tierra del Fuego and a city that proudly calls itself the southernmost city in the world. Sandwiched between the bay of the Beagle Channel and the snow-capped peaks, it has long been the main gateway to Antarctica: it is from here that most cruises to the icy continent depart.

The Pan-American Highway ends here, and the Tierra del Fuego national park with Magellanic forests, peatlands and seascapes stretches nearby. The city lives on fishing, tourism and the spirit of the end of the world - the same one for which people come here from the other side of the planet.
