FAQFrequently asked questions

What is this valley and where is it?

This is a glacial valley in the High Tatras on the Polish side, part of the Tatra National Park. It stretches for about 4 km in length and 2 km in width, lies at an altitude of about 1625-1900 meters.

Why "five" if I bet more?

The name promises five, but in fact there are six reservoirs - the Tatras decided to add another one at the expense of the institution. Among them is the Great Polish Pond: 31 hectares and a depth of about 79 meters, that is, it is not a puddle, but serious mountain water.

What can you see here besides the lakes?

Near the Front ponds there is a shelter built in 1948-1953 and named after Leopold Swiz - the highest in the Polish part of the Tatras. And on the banks of large lakes, a stone hut has been preserved, which dates back to the 17th century.

When is it better to go and is it difficult?

There are a lot of trails here, and they work both in summer and in winter - the valley is popular even among Skituriv residents. It is easier and safer in the summer; a winter hike in the Tatras is no longer a walk, but a serious matter with the appropriate equipment.
