FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Bezengi wall?

This is the highest section of the main Caucasian ridge - a solid mountain wall about 12 kilometers long. The height difference in places reaches almost 2 kilometers, so the scale here is serious.

Where is it located?

On the border of Kabardino-Balkaria and Georgia (Svaneti). That is, right at the junction of two slopes of the main ridge of the Caucasus.

Which vertices are included in the wall?

Among the main ones are Shkhara (5068 m), Dzhangitau (5085 m), Katyntau, Gestola, Lyalver and Shota Rustaveli peak. And nearby, in the side ridge, there are Dykh-tau (5303 m) and Koshtan-tau. Five thousand are enough here for a whole collection.

Is it a place for walking or climbing?

I prefer the second. The wall is a classic target for serious climbing, and near Misses Coche there is a memorial cemetery for climbers who died here. The mountains are beautiful, but it is difficult to call them indulgent.

What else should a traveler know?

The Bezengi glacier slides down from the northern slopes, and the Bezengi mountain camp is located at its foot - routes usually start from there. Without mountain training, it is better not to climb above the base camp.
