A rescue operation to evacuate two elderly travelers who were unable to return from a one-day route on their own has been completed in the 八ヶ岳連峰 mountain range. An 80-year-old resident of the city 越谷市 and a 68-year-old resident of the city 川崎市 climbed to the summit area にゅう, but with the onset of night they lost the ability to move.

The tourists had to spend the whole night on the mountain trail. In the morning, another traveler passed by, noticed the immobilized people and immediately called the fire department.

Police and firefighter personnel arrived at the scene and organized the descent of the victims, carrying them on their backs. Both were taken to a medical facility: the man passed away from fatigue without injuries, while the woman was diagnosed with signs of hypothermia.

Context

The rocky peak にゅう (2352 m) is located in the northern part of the 八ヶ岳連峰 mountain range. The route to it usually starts from the high-altitude Lake Sirakoma, from where the trail runs through dense relict forests, known for hundreds of species of moss. Despite the reputation of an accessible one-day route, after the equipped wooden decks near the reservoir the trail turns into a rocky terrain with a slippery intertwining of roots, where the speed of movement slows down significantly.
