3/7 difficulty

The same two ropes, after which our extreme tour is named, are the most important characters in the hike. Waves of adrenaline, the feeling of flying, and other interesting feelings - all this is possible thanks to a pair of simple (well, almost simple) ropes, proudly riding on the backpacks of the instructors. Respect and take care of them.

Day by dayItinerary

1

Day 1. Simferopol, Belogorsk, Karabi plateau, Getting to know the equipment

Group meeting in Simferopol, at the railway station, around 10 am. We distribute food and equipment. Then we move to the village of Belogorsk, from where a chartered minibus will take us straight into the mountains. Or rather, to the vast Karabi plateau. There we set up camp and begin to familiarize ourselves with ropes and other equipment.

2

Day 2. Karabi plateau, rappel to the Bolshoi Buzluk cave, Mount Kara-Tau, Su-At

It's time to practice. We will most likely start with a rappel descent into the Bolshoi Buzluk cave, where ice deposits do not melt even in the midst of the summer heat. Then we climb into Mamina’s cave on foot. In the afternoon we climb to the top of Mount Kara-Tau, where we look at the small Terpi-Koba cave. Then descend to the Eastern Suat tourist camp and spend the night near the Sulukh-Oba spring.

3

Day 3. Tyrke Yayla, Northern Demerdzhi plateau, rope crossing

After a slight climb we will find ourselves on the Tyrke plateau. The main decoration of these places is the rocky cliffs of the Khapkhal gorge, which we have to go around. To make the walk more fun, at one of the sections we will organize a rope crossing over the abyss. Of course, this place could be bypassed, but then you won’t have the opportunity to taste the adrenaline from sliding along a rope (two ropes!) stretched over the abyss. It's completely safe, but damn exciting. Having finished with the extreme, we will go down to the Dzhurla tourist camp for relaxation and a hearty dinner.

4

Day 4. South Demerdzhi, rappel training, camp bath

In the first half of the day we will go by radial (i.e. without backpacks) to the top of South Demerdzhi and look at the Valley of Ghosts. And after lunch we will start training in rappelling. We will need this skill tomorrow when descending the canyon. While we are jumping up and down the rocks, the most energetic ones can heat a camp bathhouse - the greatest invention of mankind. Then in the evening you can take a steam bath and relax before a hard day.

5

Day 5. Descent along the Alaki Canyon

The culmination of our extreme tour. Descending the canyon will take the whole day, and we will walk a significant part of the way “on ropes”. The canyon, like a giant stone staircase, descends towards the sea in huge steps (some of them reach 70 meters in height). We will move along the water, overcome one cascade after another, while simultaneously admiring the numerous waterfalls on the Alaka River. In its lower reaches, this river changes its name and becomes Sotera. And we will change the method of movement and finally move a little horizontally. Overnight by the river.

6

Day 6. Stone mushrooms, Cape Sotera, Alushta

Then everything is simple. In the morning we exchange addresses and phone numbers, go down the river, see the Stone Mushrooms and Geyser Waterfall, and go out onto the busy Alushta - Solnechnogorskoye - Sudak highway. From here you can take a minibus to Alushta and further to Simferopol (help the instructor load the ropes into the minibus) or, if desired, go down to the sea near Cape Sotera. There are several campsites relatively close to the beach. The hike is over, that's it! If you want to leave Crimea on the same day, then return tickets should be taken from Simferopol for trains departing no earlier than 20:00.

Natalia Orel, Kyiv

For me personally, the hike was filled with pleasant surprises, which I wish for everyone, so I won’t give away all the surprises, besides, you will see beautiful landscapes on many hikes, and on this route they will add a zest of extreme sports to your life. Challenge the heights! You will have a strong rope on your side, instructors you can rely on, and you yourself, of course, who you should rely on first.

Yulia Komandenko, Moscow
translated July 2011

After the hike, we brought back to Moscow a bunch of new impressions, the ability to make a fire, swim in an icy river, and a couple of magnets. We are planning to return next year to the “Two Pitches” route!
