Velikiy Buzluk

Velikiy Buzluk

The Great Buzluk, also known as Buzluk-Koba, is an ice cave on the Karabi Yail. The vertical cavity about 40 meters deep ends with a 20-meter well with a grotto, where the ice lies all year round, despite the fact that the entrance is wide and atmospheric air calmly enters there.

Its most spectacular decoration is an ice stalagmite about 5 meters high, which does not melt even in July and August, and begins to grow anew in autumn. Icicles hang from the vault, and the oldest ice here is said to last for half a century.

The cave is wild and vertical, so without equipment and experience you shouldn't even begin the descent into the well. Karabi-yaila itself is surrounded by a bare karst plateau without landmarks, where you still have to reach the entrance.
