What is Ritza and where to find it?
This is a mountain lake of glacial-tectonic origin in the Caucasus, in the Gudaut region of Abkhazia. It lies at an altitude of 950 meters, and there are peaks from 2,200 to 3,200 meters around - so the view will definitely be enough.
How deep and big is it?
The area is about 1.27 square meters. km, length 2.5 km. The average depth is 63 meters, and in the deepest place it is as much as 131 meters, so you should not dive unnecessarily.
Why does water change color?
In spring and summer, the lake is greenish-yellow, and closer to autumn and winter it becomes cold-blue. All because of the transparency of the water and phytoplankton, which lives according to its own schedule.
When is the best time to go swimming?
The water here is not for heroes: in winter it is about 3.8 degrees, and even in August it warms up to only 17.6. Therefore, bathing is for amateurs, but it is worth admiring at any time.
What is interesting to see nearby?
The lake is part of the Rytsyn Relic National Park, and Stalin's and Brezhnev's dachas have been preserved on its shores - they are still visited by tours for those who want to look into the Soviet past.
