Dragon Rock
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Dragon Rock and where to find it?
Це кам'яний останець на схилах гори Голубина, неподалік села Александровське на Ставропіллі (Північний Кавказ). Nature carved it out of sandstone, shell limestone and clay - so the dragon is completely man-made in appearance only.
How high will you have to climb?
Golubina Mountain itself has an absolute height of about 675 meters, so it is more of a pleasant walk down the slope than a serious climb. The dragon lies among a group of rocks on its slopes.
What else is interesting next to the Dragon?
The dragon is not alone: nearby is a whole company of stone figures - a Turtle, a group of Pillars with an Elephant and Lizards, and also a karst well with a diameter of 3.5 meters and a depth of up to 6 meters. Nearby are Zaba mountain, Kiselyovsky mound and the Stone Barn caves.
Are they just pretty rocks or something more serious?
More seriously: these rocks have the status of natural monuments of extreme importance, and mostly of geological profile. That is, it is not worth chipping away for souvenirs - otherwise the legend itself will remain from the dragon.
Where did such relief come from?
All these figures are the work of weathering and erosion, which have worn soft sedimentary rocks for thousands of years. What turned out to be similar to a dragon, a turtle or an elephant is rather a happy coincidence and the work of our imagination.
