FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Synevyr and what makes it special?
This is the largest lake of the Ukrainian Carpathians, lying at an altitude of almost 989 meters. In the middle of the water there is a tiny island - it is because of it that the lake was nicknamed Sea Eye.
Where did the lake come from?
About 10,000 years ago, an earthquake caused a powerful landslide, which blocked the mountain stream - that's how the water gathered. The legend blames everything on the tears of the girl Sina for the murdered beloved shepherd Vyr.
When is the best time to come and is it possible to swim?
Swimmers can't go wild here: even in the warmest months, the water rarely warms above 11-13 degrees. But in summer and autumn, the scenery is worth the trip, and in winter - a snowy fairy tale.
What to see on the spot?
A 13-meter wooden sculpture of lovers Sin and Vir stands near the lake. All this is part of the Synevyr National Nature Park, so there is a place to walk along the forest paths nearby.
How to get there?
A lake in the Khust region of Transcarpathia. A mountain road, renewed at the end of 2020, leads to the park - go through Volovets towards the Lower Gate. Then leave the car and reach on foot.
