What is Hoverla famous for?
This is the highest mountain in Ukraine - 2061 meters above sea level. It sits in the Chornohora massif, on the border of Ivano-Frankivsk region and Transcarpathia, just 17 km from the Romanian border.
How to climb it?
The most popular route is the blue route from the Zaroslyak base: about 3 hours up and 2 hours down. There is a shorter red one from Mount Breskul (an hour there and back) and long green trails from the village of Lazeshchyna for 6-7 hours.
Is it difficult?
In the summer, it's more of a long walk uphill than climbing. But in winter, the route already has category 1B, because snow, avalanches and nature are added - so leave the cold season prepared.
When is the best time to go?
Summer and autumn are your time. And don't expect to be alone: according to the norms, no more than 300 people are allowed to the top per day, because there are enough people willing to become the highest in the country.
What to see on the way and up?
On the eastern slope, the Prut Waterfall, about 80 meters high, roars. At the very top - a cross and a monument with a trident. All this within the boundaries of the Carpathian National Nature Park and Biosphere Reserve.
