Border and customs when entering Ukraine

On arrival you pass border control, then customs. There are no scheduled flights into Ukraine, so this is a land crossing. Whether you need a visa is in Visa requirements for entering Ukraine. If you do, it is issued before the trip, not at the border.

Passport control

The border officer stamps your passport. An immigration card is filled in when the passport has no space for a stamp, or you ask for no stamp. Registration with OVIR in every town is not required. Medical cover of at least 30,000 euros is described in the visa article.

Cash

Currency and bank metals worth up to 10,000 euros may be brought in and taken out without a written declaration. A larger amount is declared in writing, and you declare the whole sum, not only the part above the limit.

Goods, alcohol, tobacco

Personal goods within the allowance need no written declaration and no duty: up to 1,000 euros through an airport crossing, and up to 500 euros and 50 kg through other crossings. Food for your own use in the maker's packaging counts within 200 euros.

A person aged 18 or over may bring in, duty-free, 5 litres of beer, 2 litres of wine and 1 litre of spirits above 22 percent alcohol, plus 200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 250 grams of tobacco. If you were outside Ukraine for less than 24 hours, alcohol and tobacco are not duty-free.

Weapons, narcotics, cultural objects, animals and some medicines need a permit or a prescription. The full list is kept by the State Customs Service. Allowances change, so open that page again before you travel.
