Danilcha-Koba

FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Danylcha-Koba?

This is a karst grotto on the slope of Mount Sedam-Kaya in the southwest of Crimea. One large hall measuring approximately 12 by 14 meters, with a wide triangular entrance - more than 10 meters wide.

What is interesting about this grotto inside?

There is an underground lake with cold water in the grotto - the temperature stays at +7...+8 °C all year round. Sometimes the water rises almost two meters, so swimming here is definitely not worth it.

Is there anything here besides a cave?

At the entrance, archaeologists found the remains of a medieval temple with one apse. That is, they once came here not only for water, but also to pray.

What is the status of this place?

This is both a geological and an archaeological monument. The grotto received environmental protection status back in 1964, so nothing can be destroyed here - only look.

Where to look for it?

The grotto is located in the Bakhchisaray district, on the slopes of Mount Sedam-Kaya. Focus on the mountain - the entrance itself is quite noticeable due to its size.
