Kuchuk-Karasu
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Kuchuk-Karasu?
This is a river in the Crimea, 80 km long, which cuts through a picturesque gorge with waterfalls in the upper reaches. It is actually this gorge that tourists mean when they say "canyon".
Where does it flow from and where does it flow?
Begins at Horucha pass on Karabi-yayl, at an altitude of 725 m, and ends at the Biyuk-Karasu river. The pool occupies 255 km.
What to see here?
In the upper reaches, closer to the village of Povorotne, you will find the Cheremisovsky waterfalls and the so-called "baths of youth" - natural depressions where the brave can swim.
When is the best time to go?
Aim for spring or early summer while the water is still available. In the lower reaches, the river simply dries up in summer and autumn, so coming to the waterfalls in August is a risk of seeing dry stones.
How to get here?
The most convenient entry point is the village of Povorotne, from where the excursion route "Into the Kokasan Gorge" leads. Another name of the same path is "Cheremysovsky Waterfalls".
