Parvati Valley
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Parvati Valley and where to find it?
This is a valley in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh in northern India. It stretches east from the town of Bhuntar, where the Parvati River flows into the Beas, and rises up into the Himalayas.
How to get there?
The main road goes up from Bhuntar through a number of villages and rests in Pulga - further only on foot. The base camp for most travelers is the village of Kasol.
What to see there?
Kasol as a party hub, Manikaran hot spring pilgrimage town (holy spot for both Hindus and Sikhs), Khirgangi hot springs, secluded Malana village and Rudra Nag Falls. The Pin-Parvati pass at 5,319 meters awaits the lovers of haiku.
When is the best time to go?
In summer - then trekking trails and passable passes are open. Monsoon (July-August) adds dramatic scenery, but also a lot of gloom with acidic trails and landslides.
What is the valley famous for, besides the mountains?
Hot springs, which are credited with healing power, and a good portion of hippie reputation - those who are looking for more than alpine meadows and coniferous forests have been flocking here for a long time. The villages are at an altitude of 3,000 meters, so acclimatization is not superfluous.
