FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Gorelnik and why is it interesting?

This is a gorge on the northern slope of the Zailiyskyi Alatau ridge with a geothermal source that flows from the zone of deep tectonic faults. Water is taken from a well 250 meters deep, so the heat comes here literally from underground.

Where is it and how to get there?

Gorelnik lies approximately 18 kilometers south of Almaty (Kazakhstan). It is convenient to start right from the city and head to the mountains towards the ridge - a place long sought after by tourists.

What kind of water is in the spring and is it possible to swim?

The water is fresh, bicarbonate-sulfate-sodium, with a temperature of about 20-22 degrees, and in the self-pouring it reaches 27. It contains radon, silicic acid and a little hydrogen sulfide - a set for which people come here to get better.

Are there many people here?

The spring was reconstructed in 2016, and since then it is clearly not empty - 500 to 800 visitors come here every day. If you want silence, catch the morning.
