Savin Kuk
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Savin Cook and how tall is he?
This is a 2,313-meter-high limestone peak in the Durmitor massif, on the territory of the national park of the same name in Montenegro. In summer it is a mountain for pedestrians, in winter it is a ski resort with a lift to the very top.
How to get there?
The easiest way is to take the lift from the village of Motychky Gai, it works all year round. Those who like to walk, start from the Black Lake in Žablyak along the old path, which was used by King Nicholas I himself in the early 1900s.
When is the best time to go?
For skiing - from December to the end of March, while the snow lasts. In the warm season, the chairlift takes tourists to simply admire the scenery, without any skis.
What to see here?
From the top there is a view of the highest peak of Durmitor, Bobotov Kuk, and the Black Lake below. On the way there is the Savina Voda spring at an altitude of 2,212 meters, which is attributed with healing properties.
Where did the name come from?
The mountain was named after Saint Sava, the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church. According to a local legend, he performed miracles here - for example, he punched a spring out of the ground with a blow of a staff.
