What is Durmitor and what is its highest point?
This is a mountain massif in Montenegro. The highest peak is Bobotiv-Kuk, 2,522 meters, so the height here is measured seriously.
Where is it and where is it convenient to start?
The massif lies in northern Montenegro, and the base town is Zabljak. From there, they go on routes and lifts.
When is the best time to go?
Depends on what you want: in the winter they go skiing and snowboarding, and in the summer they go to the mountains on foot and climb the peaks.
What is worth paying attention to here, apart from the mountains themselves?
Durmitor is a national park with UNESCO status since 1980, glacial lakes (the most famous is the Black Lake) and the canyon of the Tara River, about 80 km long, one of the deepest in the world after the Grand Canyon.
Is this a protected area at all?
Yes, the national park was created back in 1952. It covers the massif itself, river canyons and part of the plateau - a total of about 390 km².
