What are Komov and where are they?
This is a mountain massif in the east of Montenegro, part of the Dinaric Highlands. Sandwiched between Prokletiye, Belasitsa Mountain and the Tara River, on the territory of the communities of Kolasyn and Andrijevica.
What is the highest peak here?
The highest is Kom Kuchki, 2,487 m. Stari Vrh (2,483 m) and Kom Levorechki (2,469 m) are close by, so a few two-thousanders will be enough for a long time.
Why did the massif get the status of a natural park?
In 2018, Komovy was declared a natural park - due to the rich flora, fauna and ecological value of the area.
How many big peaks are there?
Six main ones: Kom Kuchki, Stari vrh, Kom Levorechki, Kom Vasoevichki, Rogamski vrh and Bavan. All of them are above two thousand meters.
Are there traces of human history?
Yes, the massif has long been inhabited by katuns - summer shepherds of the settlement of the local Montenegrin tribes of Vasojevici and Kucha. Cattle were driven here to high mountain pastures.
